Meet Linda Lawson, the Candidate for Lt. Governor

 

Linda Lawson is a lifelong champion for social justice and equality, women, workers, animals, and public schools. She is no stranger to breaking glass ceilings and leading the way for women.

Linda was the first female officer of the Hammond Police Department and retired as Captain 24 years later. During that time, she raised two beautiful daughters, Jennifer Webber and Laura Wozniak, and she served as a Hammond School Board member, patrol officer, D.A.R.E. Officer, sex crime investigator, and Captain of Support Services.

In 1998, Linda was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives representing District 1. She served as the House Judiciary Chair for six years. In 2012, she became the first female elected by the House Democratic caucus to serve as the Floor Leader and remained in the leadership position until her retirement in 2018.

Since retirement, Linda has been living in Nashville, Indiana with her two best fur friends, Sophie and Hank. She enjoys spending time with her beautiful daughters and granddaughter, Genavive, and is an active member of the community. Currently, she serves on the Town of Nashville’s Election Board and Nashville Police Department Merit Board.
